Interview mit Length Of Time

01.01.1998

Well about a long time ago I did an interview with Ross and Michel from Length Of Time, who impressed me a lot
with their current record "Shame to this weakness modern world". Sorry it took me so long to bring it online, I
was very busy with university and other stuff....

Ploedi:

Would you please like to introduce yourself to our readers?

Michel:

I'm Michel from LOT from Brussels and I play guitar. We exist for 2 years, we have one demo which is called
"Which is a violent way", a full album called "Approach to the new world" and one mini CD called "Shame to this
weakness modern world". And that's what we think about the world.

Ross:

*Laughs* I'm Ross from LOT and I'm the singer.

Ploedi:

What's the meaning of the name Length Of Time?

Michel:

LOT means your approach to the dead. You live in the time of your life and this is your approach to the dead.

Ploedi:

Your logo was kinds criticised because lot's of people claimed it having a fascist background. So what is it's
meaning?

Michel:

The logo represents the church of final judgement, which was not a sect but movement represented by judge
Brumstone, he wrote a text about humanity about love, about hate and for him god was the guy who made the
judgement and evil was the one who executed it'S judgement so they live together, they are not separated.
I know that many people interpretate it like the fascist swastika.

Ross:

If you look closely you see it has nothing to do with it. It represents the four trumpets of the apocalypse.

Ploedi:

Where do you see the difference between the last two albums?

Ross:

We all progressed in our ways for example with the vocals i progressed, with the guitar you learn from each
other. We are four guys and we learn from each other when we play so you progress automatically in your songs.
In the new songs there were more melodic parts and in the same time it was also more aggressive and that was
the way we wanted to do it.

Michel:

We've played a lot of shows and that made us think more about our music. I don't deny that we are a metal band.

Ploedi:

Do you consider LOt being kind of a political band?

Michel:

Not political but we have another vision as the usual hardcore scene.

Ross:

Yeah, how to say. People say we have a very negative vision. But noticing the things happening in the world it's kind of
negative. It's like a kind of the truth. When you see the news, you see a lot of negative shit so I don't gonna sing songs about
how everything is great and beautiful. You can't deny that.

Michel:

We want that each person faces reality. People who talk about unity are dreamers.

Ross:

Be yourself. Don't walk behind the backs of other people.

Michel:

We want to go straight to the personality of each person.

Ploedi:

What's your vision of the future of the world?

Michel:

Very bad, very morose. We try to bring out people from dis morose everyday in our life.

Ross:

Future? It's very negative. I think it's blood murder and death. That's very negative....I know I know I'm trying to make the
best you know, we all try to make the best. But if you see that a lot of people saying "we should do this better and that better"
but the main thing is that it's very negative. I think people can't change it, it's too late.

Ploedi:

How do you see the end of the world?

Ross:

War, I guess.

Michel:

It's just that humanity is destroying his own mother earth, his own atmosphere, his own water, his own animals his own trees.

Ross:

Humanity is very ignorant and that will lead to destruction.

Ploedi:

You guys have big issues with Charles Manson, why do you admire him so much?

Michel:

For me Charles Manson first plays great music, I love his music, it's so beautiful and so romantic and so against the system.
Also for me he didn't kill anybody. He was just a guy who created his own world, I mean outside of the system outside of the problems
of the actual world. But in the 70ies America had lot's of problems with Vietnam, people were really into drugs because they wanted
to escape from the real world and everybody fucked up because some kids killed some people but Charles Manson is totally innocent
and he represents a political prisoner for me. He is in jail because of the system, because he knew to much about the system
he told the truth to everybody and also the media used Charles Manson by making money on his back by selling books and movies.
And he lives a very odd live in prison and he's cut from mail, he can't play music, because of the system.

Ross:

Yeah, like Michel said about the system. If you know too much sometimes they say shut up and put you down. That's really bad.

Ploedi:

Do you believe in the new world order like the Illuminati?

Michel:

Everybody has his own dream of his own world. I have my two feet on the ground and I realize what's up and true people like
Charles Manson, like the Church of satan, I believe in the church of satan because they are right with what they say.
You know they say, when you love, you can't love anybody, that's natural, that's true.

Ploedi:

What did you want to express with "Shame to this weakness modern world"?

Michel:

Shame to the actual system who try to make kids consume everything from it. They lie to their own people, each system lies to their
own people. they try to steal your own identity, you have to pay your rent, you have to pay your right to live.

Ploedi:

Why do you have a new bass player?

Ross:

Vincent is still a good friend from us. He wants more other music like Rollins or Quicksand, Helmet and he wanted to play
another style with normal vocals and all this. And then we caught up with Vince from Arkangel. He is a cool guy, we laugh a lot.

Michel:

Vincent also had too much to do, he's working for his father. We already did two Euro tours within less than one year and his
father said that he can't let him go anymore because it's too much.

Ploedi:

I heard there were problems with Deviate?

Michel:

Yeah, they said some stuff in interviews but they didn't wanted to say...

Ross:

I'm gonna be honest, maybe there were some things. There was a problem and I think this problem is solved for this moment.

Michel:

If I have a choice to make, I'll make it by my own, even if people say I have to choose, I don't care. I don't give a shit
what people think, I don't give shit what Deviate think. I know Deviate is in my heart, LOT too. I'm old enough to make my
own decisions.

Ploedi:

What's about future plans of LOT?

Michel:

We have lot's of shows until March and wanna tour. The first thing we wanna do is a new album, 10 new songs, we already have four of them.
We want it to come out in April 2000. Also a split with Liar with cover songs. I make my solo project: Industrial Music.

Ploedi:

Some final words?

Ross:

Germany, thank you for everything, for the people who showed up at our shows, for supporting us. I hope to see you back soon.
Especially a big motherfucking thanks to Jens, because he rules. Without him this tour wouldn't be possible.

Well finally I got this great interview typed......a big sorry to Ross, Michel and the rest of LOT for me taking so long...
Check out LOT, they are one of the greatest European bands (to me).....
