METALLICA - AND JUSTICE FOR ALL (RE-MASTERED DELUXE BOX SET)

"Justice" ist nicht done - zumindest nicht, was das Album "And Justice For All" von METALLICA angeht.

Dieses wird so, wie die Vorgängerplatten "Kill Em All", "Ride The Lightning" und "Master Of Puppets", als Re-Mastered erscheinen. Am 2 November kommen mehrere Versionen des Albums heraus. Unter anderem das Deluxe Box Set, das ich hier etwas besprechen möchte.

Ich durfte vorab in einen Auszug der Box reinhören und habe hier versucht einen Einblick bzw. Überblick für Euch aufzuschreiben. Doch zuerst zu den Rahmenbedingungen.

Mit "And Justice For All" begann für METALLICA ein neuer Abschnitt in der Kariere der Band. Nach dem Unfalltod von Cliff Burton 1986 musste die Band nicht nur mit dem Verlust, der Trauer und der Wut über den Verlust eines Mitglieds fertig werden, sonder eben auch einen neuen Bassisten finden und ein neues Album schreiben. Mit Jason Newsted wurde ein neuer Bassist gefunden und im Oktober 1987 begannen dann die Arbeiten am Nachfolger Album "Master of Puppets".

Der Rest ist Geschichte. Mit über acht Millionen verkaufter Einheiten in den USA wurde And Justice for All mit Achtfachplatin ausgezeichnet. Eine Grammy Nominierung für BEST HARD ROCK/METAL PERFORMANCE VOCAL OR INSTRUMENTAL und der Grammy für BEST METAL PERFORMANCE für den Song One sprechen für sich. Viele vertreten die Meinung das And Justice For All der Höhepunkt der Entwicklung von METALLICA war. Das darf aber jeder für sich entscheiden.

Auf die Songs selber muss ich denke ich nicht groß eingehen. Für mich ist "And Justice For All" eines der, wenn nicht das beste METALLICA Album. Meiner Meinung nach wird der neue Mix des Albums den Songs gerecht und bringt sie in die Qualität, die sie verdient haben. Einfach etwas runder und wärmer vom Sound her.

Der Bass: Es ist kein Geheimnis das auf "Justice" so gut wie kein Bass zu hören ist. Die Trauer um Cliff machte es Jason schwer und somit wurde seine Bass Spur eigentlich aus so ziemlich jedem Song herausgedreht.

Ist das bei der Re-Mastered Version besser? Ich hatte schon an der ein oder anderen Stelle das Gefühl, dass der Bassregler von 0,5 auf 1 höchstens 1,5 angehoben wurde. Also ein My mehr und fast nicht der Rede wert. Aber vielleicht ist auch gerade diese Nuance, die die für den jetzigen Klang spricht. Am besten zu hören finde ich es bei dem Song "One".

Es gibt alleine schon 3 CD`s mit Demos in dieser Box: RIFFS, JAMS & DEMO und ROUGH MIXES FROM THE VAULT

Von einzelnen Riff Schnipseln zu den Demos die fast schon die fertigen Songs sind. Wer sich mit der Band etwas auskennt, weiß das die Songs meistens schon stehen wenn es in das Studio geht und nur noch mit Vocals von James gefüllt werden müssen. So entstehen immer wieder Lücken in den Liedern die James, dank noch nicht geschriebener Lyrics mit "Na Na Na Na" oder "La La La", füllt. Was immer wieder lustig ist, wenn man dann an den fertigen Song denkt.

Die Demos sind roh, schnell und von der Soundqualität Demos. Man bekommt natürlich keine super Qualität, aber einen ganz guten Einblick in die Entstehung eines Songs bei den Jungs. Zumindest in der damaligen Zeit.

Live:

Der Box liegt unter anderem eine dreifach "LP LIVE – SEATTLE ’89" bei.

Dem Ein oder Anderen wird die Show bekannt sein, da diese Show damals 1993 in der Live Shit Binge and Purge Box als zweite Show auf VHS dabei war. VHS? Ja VHS!

Ich habe dutzende von METALLICA Live Shows gehört, einige auch live gesehen und ich muss sagen, dass ich bis heute diese Show immer noch als eine der geilsten Livescheiben sehe. Verdammt, hätte ich die Jungs gerne live gesehen damals!

Fazit:

Braucht man das? Das ist immer die Frage bei solchen Re Issue Geschichten. In diesem Fall finde ich es schön, dass man solch ein Album nochmal in neuem Glanz veröffentlicht.

Die Box ist reichlich gefüllt und hat sicherlich auch für den Die Hard Tallica Fans noch das ein oder andere Schmankerl dabei. Mit 190 € ist die Deluxe Box jetzt nicht gerade günstig, aber im Vergleich zum Inhalt nun halt doch. Es gibt aber natürlich auch kostengünstigere Versionen die Ihr bei dem Händler eures Vertrauens kaufen könnt. Ich bin schon gespannt, was die Herren METALLICA zur Re Mastered Version vom Black Album zusammen klopfen.
